The 2006 Matallana spent 15-18 months in new French oak. It is more expressive aromatically with aromas of pain grille, mineral, Asian spices, incense, and blackberry. It opens in the glass to display layers of flavor, outstanding volume, and a brooding personality.

Assertive smoky and toasty notes frame mineral and tobacco flavors in this firm, austere red. There's not much fruit showing now, but the structure is solid and balanced.
