From holdings that hitherto went into the Domaine Bernard Moreau Morgeot bottling, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Cardeuse Blanc is the first time, to my knowledge, that this climat, located on the border with Santenay and surrounded by imposing dry stone walls, has been indicated on a label in white. Mingling aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, pear, white flowers and beeswax with subtle hints of reduction, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a more multidimensional, muscular profile than the quintessentially elegant Fairendes.
The first ever white Cardeuse, made from 60 years old planted where the rock sticks out. The nose is quiet but this has powerful fruit behind, speaking of Morgeot, and then the stony touch from the limestone outcrop. These parts are not yet married but I see no reason why they will not.
