Tasted as part of a vertical held at the chateau. The Guiraud 1997 is clearly a step up from the previous two vintages: bursting forth with delectable wild honey and marmalade aromas that mingle with vanilla pod and peach skin. It has retained good vigor and remains vital – much more so than the 1996. The palate is well-balanced and fresh on the entry with crisp acidity cutting through the Seville orange marmalade and quince fruit. There is good weight on the finish and though there is not the complexity of later vintages, it continues to drink well.
An elegant and racy Guiraud, with pretty aromas of pineapple, melon and spice. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with an intense, spicy botrytis finish.
Rene Gabriel rates this wine 18/20 points.
