Complex aromas of ripe pears, herby citrus and stone dust. The impression of oak, though I think they use only large oak on this wine. Intense, but not heavy thanks to the vibrant acidity that drives to a long, creamy finish. Leesy texture balances the sour freshness.

A cool and complex gruner veltliner. Lots of ripe gooseberries and green peppers plus a wealth of garden herb and leesy complexity on the nose, then a stack of Amalfi lemons and grapefruit on the quite compact, medium-bodied palate. Fine tannins support the long finish. Matured for almost a year in large neutral oak casks. From organically grown grapes.

The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Käferberg 1ÖTW is deep, pure, intense and complex on the saline nose that is reminiscent of crushed limestone rocks. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, with fine tannins and charming lemon bitters on the finish, this is a dense and mouth-filling yet still young Käferberg that benefits from a large glass and certainly further bottle aging. This is one of the greater Veltliners of the vintage, but it will further improve with bottle age.

The 2022 Grüner Veltliner Ried Käferberg is an elevated, east-facing site on maritime sediments and clay lenses with a loess cover. This was made in one 1,200-liter and one 300-liter barrel. Slightly lifted notes of hayflowers, dried moss and hints of dried pear skin blend with fresh, ripe citrus. The palate is zestier and brighter than the nose suggests, straight-laced and concentrated. It has a subtle oak influence and a salty yeast backdrop. The harmonious, elegant length is what the house is known for. (Bone-dry)
