The wines here are concentrated, firm, and easily identifiable as Nebbiolo from Monforte d’Alba, but never tough and aggressive, and the 1999 Barolo Bricco Visette is the best since the 1996 vintage. A firm ruby/garnet in color, its ample and intense nose of cherries and currants, roses, and chocolate is matched by an important density and texture, high-level concentration balanced by velvety tannins, and a fine complexity of herbs, tar, and licorice to accompany the sweet fruit and abundant glycerin.
