The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Plateaux is one of the more reserved wines in the range, opening up with aromas of ripe berries, spices, licorice and soil. Medium to full-bodied, firm and muscular, it's undeniably powerful, and more than a little introverted at this youthful stage.
Once again there is a lot of wood influence infusing the fresh and very ripe aromas of cassis, black cherry and similar soft earth wisps. There is better volume and mid-palate density to the relatively sleek and appealingly textured flavors that flash only a trace of rusticity on the youthfully austere, complex and sneaky long finish. The wood isn't shy but this is a very good wine.
Sweet oak spice and a gobful of mouth-filling, ripe black-cherry fruit. Firmly tannic but not unapproachable thanks to refreshing acidity and that upfront primary fruit. Precocious and impressive. (RH)
