The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru is the broadest, most flamboyant wine in the range, bursting with aromas of raspberries, plums, licorice and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, rich and enveloping, it's gourmand and fleshy, with velvety tannins, succulent acids and an ample core of fruit. I suspect that after a decade in the cellar it will seem more classically proportioned than it does today—as has been the case with Mongeard's fine 2003s—though readers who appreciate riper styles of red Burgundy may also find it hard to resist in its youth. It's a blend of Echézeaux du Dessus and Les Treux.
