There are three barrels of the 2013 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. It has a sumptuous bouquet of macerated small black cherries, cassis and a touch of vanilla emanating from the oak (30% new). The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannins and very well-judged acidity. This is more focused than the Amoureuses at the moment, perhaps a little more structured and reserved with a twist of sour lemon lending edginess on the finish. Excellent.
This also lacks a bit of aromatic freshness though it is nowhere near as pronounced as it is in the Amoureuses and I suspect that this could very well recover because there is much, much better vibrancy and freshness to the broad-shouldered flavors that deliver outstanding depth and length on the balanced finish. As such both my score and my suggested drinking window offer the benefit of the doubt as this could be great in time if it recovers.
