The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from Confuron's 0.5-hectare of vines that were planted in 1962. It has a lively, well-defined, vivacious bouquet with macerated small dark cherries, cassis and minerals that unfold nicely in the glass. The palate is tightly bound at the moment with firm tannins exerting a gentle but insistent grip. There are hints of marmalade and spice infusing the black fruit, the finish solid and closed at the moment, the aftertaste just a little shorter than I would have expected. This will be intriguing to taste after bottling.
?A ripe, fresh and elegant nose features aromas of various red berries, dark currant, spice and newly turned earth. There is a surprisingly refined mouth feel to the large-scaled and concentrated flavors that possess a fine sense of underlying tension and excellent persistence on the mouth coating finish. Good stuff and less austere than usual.
