Bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, red berries and plums mingled with sweet spices, orange zest and rose petals, the 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a seamless, complete profile, capturing all the charm of the vintage.
The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru feels a little reduced on the nose, with earthy red fruit, baked cherries, wild mint and sage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This wine is cohesive with a little more flesh and complexity compared directly with the Clos de Vougeot. Once the aromatics kick into gear, this should develop into a decent Echézeaux.
This is even spicier with its cool and pure aromas of violet, lilac, rose petal, Asian-style tea and mix of red and dark berries. The suave and seductively textured flavors are not quite as dense but they are finer on the mid-palate yet the robust and powerful finish is consistent with what one typically expects from examples of Echézeaux from Les Rouges du Bas. Patience again strongly advised.
Fine and elegant ruby purple, with a most stylish nose, a refined graceful pinot with floral overtones. Then just a little bit less than I was expecting on the palate with the peppery notes of some wines in 2021 at the finish. More hail here might be the explanation. Drink from 2027-2033.
