The 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) is an unctuous but structured wine, offering up aromas of confit citrus, buttered toast, hazelnuts and flowers, followed by a full-bodied, ample, layered palate that's thick and textural, with good underlying dry extract and wears its heart on its sleeve.
The 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru, which comes from the Chassagne side, also showed some of the barrel on the nose like the Chevalier, but overall, it seems more primal and less terroir-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with a resinous entry, surfeit with extract, though I am seeking a little more finesse and mineralité on the finish. A little broad-shouldered at the moment.
Here too there is enough wood to mention but not to mask the similar but even spicier aromas of Granny Smith apples, white flowers and just sliced citrus. Much like the Chevalier, the big-bodied flavors possess excellent intensity as well as plenty of minerality on the detailed, focused, extremely firm and powerful finale that is also borderline tannic. Despite the opulence of the mid-palate, this is definitely a 'buy and forget' Montrachet that will very likely need 15 years of aging before it realizes its full, and considerable, potential.
