Jacques-Frederic Mugnier does not like new oak flavors or traits so he only used 20% new barrels on his 2002 Musigny. Its sumptuous aromatic profile is composed of sweet violets entwined with red cherries. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine offers soft layers of red fruits, stones, and spices. Seamless, focused, and nuanced, its fleshy personality lingers in the finish.
Pale transparent ruby. High toned and fragrant – very much more typical Mugnier than the 2003. Lightweight and charming. Such delicacy and a nice spine of very fine tannins. Long and pretty. Fresh sweetness with autumn leaves that make me wonder is there not just the merest hint of TCA on this?
No great depth of colour but the hue retains its youth. A sensational bouquet not in terms of power or opulence but just in grace, sensibility and the detail. So much concentration. This really does not put a foot wrong and in magnum still has way to go. Delicate tannins maintain the energy of the wine at the back.
