The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with a beautiful bouquet of cherries, red berries, blood orange, peonies and rose hips, complemented by subtle soil tones and a deft framing of oak. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and multidimensional, it's long and intense, concluding with a finish that's more searingly mineral than even Barthod's Cras this year.
The 1er cru section of Les Véroilles is a monopoly of the domaine and I gather they will now put Monopole on the label. Positive glowing purple with a really stylish nose, extremely classy. Fills the mouth while remaining balanced and classy. Discreet and long.
A fresh and cool nose is also notably ripe with its slightly jammy aromas of dark berries, cassis and poached plum. There is terrific volume to the intensely stony medium weight flavors that possess almost painful intensity while exhibiting stunningly good length on the bitter cherry-inflected finish. This is a beautiful combination of finesse and punch though I underscore once again that this too will require extended patience.
