Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, spices, loamy soil and vine smoke, the 2021 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with supple tannins and a suave, seamless profile.
An overtly sauvage-suffused nose enjoys additional breadth from the presence of plum, earth, spice and forest floor nuances. The sleek and beautifully detailed medium weight are also not quite as dense as those of the Cazetiers yet here too there is focused power and a taut muscularity on the even more complex, stony and persistent finale where a touch of austerity slowly emerges. Very promising.
A fuller purple with rather a reductive nose, but one can still see all the fruit. Indeed, there is something quite sensual coming up behind. A lean intensity across the palate, a touch of graphite, definitely some mineral energy, the Mazy-Chambertin works very well this year.
