The 2022 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Le Clos Blanc (Domaine Gagey) is one of the highlights of this year's range. Unfurling in the glass with notes of pear, confit citrus, toasted nuts and white flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave, its elegantly textural attack segueing into a taut, racy palate, concluding with a saline finish.

Cask sample. Light nose with some sweetness on the palate. Flattering but somehow not that noble. Quite a bit of alcohol though! (This is the first Jadot 2022 wine in which I have been aware of the alcohol – including all the reds.) (JR)

The 2022 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru follows up its impressive showing last year. There’s wonderful purity on the nose with yellow plum, meringue and wisps of candy floss, yet underneath, you can feel the terroir expression that will come through with time. The palate is very well-balanced with a fine silver bead of acidity. One of the most tensile and energetic of Jadot's whites, with Conference pear and gooseberry popping up on the finish. This will be fascinating to watch age in bottle.

When tasted young the Beaune Grèves Le Clos Blanc does not show any obvious nose that bespeaks a quality white wine vineyard. Indeed, I have been a bit sniffy in the past, but received a lesson in February 2023 when mature vintages of Beaune Grèves (1999 and 1992) at dinner in Jadot’s Couvent des Cordeliers were rather stunning. So, there is every chance that the 2022 will develop in much more interesting ways than I can detect in a young sample. Clear pale lemon. There is a little waxiness in the bouquet, while the oak speaks a little louder at the back, with a similar slightly saline bitterness to the Bressandes. Drink from 2027-2035+.
