Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 2003
Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses is stocked full of bulbous red
berry fruit on the nose: strawberry pastilles, raspberry preserve and a hint of
honey. It certainly disguises the heat of that summer very well. The palate is
sweet with kirsch and strawberry, just a hint of fig and damsons coming
through with aeration. It is surprisingly saline towards the finish with a tang of
Szechuan pepper on the aftertaste. Certainly one of the better Chambolle
2003s that I have recently tasted and it is drinking now.
Ripe, with sweet red cherry, currant and raisin flavors. Well-balanced, it has concentration and intensity, with a vibrant structure and fine length. There's a lingering mineral aftertaste.
