This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is one not to be overlooked. It has a very pretty bouquet with touches of marzipan infusing the flinty, smoky aromas. There is an abiding sense of transparency here. The palate is fresh and poised, with beautifully judged acidity and an engaging, white peach-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is simply excellent?and it gets better in the glass.
Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, Bessin's 2014 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has a rich and opulent bouquet indicating a late picking. It feels honeyed and generous although it is missing the detail of its peers. The palate is balanced with crisp acidity, finally (belatedly?) demonstrated precision and tension with a dash of fresh lemongrass toward the concentrated finish. Fine, if a couple of steps behind its fellow Valmurs at present.
