Situated on the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula of Lochaber in the Highlands of Scotland, Ardnamurchan distillery stands as a testament to the rich tradition of Scotch whisky production. Owned by Adelphi, an independent bottling company, the distillery derives its name from the rugged landscape that surrounds it.
The journey of Ardnamurchan distillery began with the submission of plans in 2011, followed by approval from the local council in April 2012. Construction commenced in 2013 and concluded in May 2014, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Scotch whisky distillation.
Production at Ardnamurchan commenced in 2014, and the inaugural release, meeting the requisite three-year maturation period, debuted in 2017. Notably, in 2018, the distillery made a charitable gesture by gifting whisky casks to local children, fostering a sense of community engagement and investment in the region's future.
The commitment to sustainability is evident in Ardnamurchan's operations, as the distillery is powered by renewable energy sources. Hydro-electric power and a biomass boiler, fueled by timber from the nearby Ardnamurchan forest, contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of production. Moreover, water for whisky production is sourced from springs above the distillery, while the Glenmore river provides cooling water, reflecting a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment.
Ardnamurchan AD/2022 Release is a testament to the distillery's dedication to quality and tradition. Matured in a combination of bourbon and Sherry casks, this expression offers a sensory journey, showcasing the distinctive character imparted by its maturation process. With a limited release of 25,200 bottles, it stands as a coveted addition to the collections of whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
