The 2016 Santa Cecilia is the second time it has been bottled on its own. Their Santa Cecilia vineyard was planted in 1936 on very shallow soils in the village of Elvillar (close to Lanciego) at 480 meters in altitude. The vineyard is planted with the help of very old vines (around one hectare, still being recovered) on very shallow, quite flat soils. They have been recovering the vineyard because it was semi-abandoned when they purchased it in 2015. This is heady and ripe, with some notes of the élevage in oak, like the grapes suffered some stress, with lots of power but still finding its balance. It doesn't have the definition and character of other vineyards, as they are still in the process of regenerating the soils, but it's a vineyard with energy, structure and potential for the future. This time they produced double the amount they did in 2015, but it's still only 900 bottles.
