The joint effort between Capannelle and Avignonesi, called 1997 50 & 50, is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese from Capannelle and Merlot from Avignonesi's vineyard. It is only sold as a future, but I was told by the importer that there are about 25 cases available for the USA. A seriously-endowed, dense ruby/purple-colored effort with plenty of new oak, it is somewhat internationally-styled, with loads of extract, tannin, and richness. Wines such as this can be found at lower prices, but they will not have the names Capannelle and Avignonesi.
Techno Tuscan red. Very ripe fruit aromas, with a huge jolt of new wood. Full-bodied, with polished tannins, berry and coconut flavors and a caressing finish.
