The Zind-Humbrecht 2010 Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Vendange Tardive offers a whiff and pungent palate twang of peat akin to that of Rangen, along with praline, peach preserves and smoked meat. While this suffers in direct comparison with the mysterious and seductive multi-dimensionality of this year’s V.T. from the Zind family’s old Herrenweg vines, it delivers an invigoratingly brash finishing combination of citrus rinds, leather, and peat that reflect a tannic degree of phenolic intensity, accompanied by a mouthwateringly savory, briny suggestion of oyster liquor. This is likely in the long run to prove as intriguingly and deliciously complex as the aforementioned Vieilles Vignes V.T. – and the long run will surely be through at least 2035.
Open-knit and delicious, offering vivacious acidity that adds a lip-smacking quality to the flavors of peach puree, pink grapefruit zest, orange granita and pickled ginger. An aromatic base note of stony mineral pushes through and lingers on the zesty finish.
