From five different plots and two different terroirs (plateau and the slopes), the 2022 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a very compact bouquet unfurling with touches of white peach and chamomile, an underlying mineralité becoming more pronounced with time. The palate is well-balanced with a superb spine of acidity. It veers towards Chassagne in style with a hint of wild peach and tangerine towards the persistent finish. Excellent.
Here a more expressive nose is at once cool yet exotic with notes of grapefruit and white peach along with a range of spice elements. The rich and quite generously proportioned middleweight flavors flash evident minerality on the bitter zest-inflected finish that is noticeably less tightly wound. As is often the case with En Remilly, this should be reasonably approachable after only 3 to 4 years.
Two separate terroirs, the slope with a little clay topsoil, the plateau just the stones. This shows a little bit of both styles. Broader in the beam, some ripe apple fruits, a little tannic at the finish, fine wine that does not quite challenge the supremacy of En Montceau.
