The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles offers up notes of pear, nutmeg and stone fruits, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich but lively palate. Typically textural but usually concentrated and structured in this vintage, it's a ripe wine that I suspect will be at its best relatively young.
Subtle but not invisible wood influence can be found on the ripe aromas of pear, apple and various citrus nuances. The dense and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors possess a beguiling texture before ending in a moderately dry and lemony finish. This isn't an elegant wine, indeed Macherelles rarely is, but I like the frank character.
