There are two barrels of Germain's brilliant 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières, a wine that will be worth a special effort to seek out. Mingling hints of citrus zest and crisp orchard fruit with notions of white flowers, wet stones and fresh bread, it's medium to full-bodied, chiseled and searingly intense, with chalky structuring dry extract, tangy acids and a tensile, tightly wound profile.
From the sector known as Les Petites Perrières, next to Pierre Morey and Vincent Latour. Two new barrels in four. Perfect pale lemon colour and very classy nose, no excess heat here at all. Then comes a wave of intensity on the palate and now the sunshine on the grapes is more apparent, but as ever there is the requisite tension. A little bit of liquorice.
