The 2018 Auxey-Duresses Village has more refinement and purity than the Meursault Rouge, offering gorgeous aromas of red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit with veins of blueberry. The palate is very powerful with huge grip for an Auxey-Duresses that will guarantee its longevity. Quite a masculine red in some ways but totally compelling. One of those wines to grab if you find it for a decent price on a restaurant list, and for me personally, preferable to the aforementioned Meursault.
From the Fosses and Boutonniers vineyards. Deep crimson, with a beautiful nose though riper than usual on the attack, red and black finish, very crisp finish with tannins too. The aromatics are riper rather than fresher, but the 2018 Auxey-Duresses retains a fine sense of balance. Tasted: February 2021.
