The 2019 Scharzhofberger Spätlese #10 (Auction) opens with a precise, pure, coolish and spicy bouquet of perfectly ripe and healthy yet aromatically discreet aromas of white rather than yellow-fleshed fruit (white peaches, nectarines and fresh mangos) intertwined with deep flint stone notes. On the palate, this is a dense, juicy and beautifully salty picture-book Spätlese with very fine tannins and a long, round and juicy but seriously structured and sustainable finish. It already has great balance today, with a well-buffered sweetness and food-friendly 9% alcohol. Tasted from AP 10-20 in June 2020 (yet, unfortunately, not side by side with a fascinating regular Spätlese). The wine will be auctioned in September this year in Trier.
Where in the world can you find floral honey that's this fine? The fragrance of this is a masterpiece of elegance. Enveloping and very delicate. Super concentrated, but so filigree with stunning mineral freshness that seems to lift you off your feet.
