Ah, the Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old from the They Inspired II series, a creation that dances at the intersection of artistry and whisky craftsmanship. Distilled in March 2009 and bottled in March 2021 by the talented Michiel Wigman, this expression boasts a robust 53.3% alcohol by volume. As part of the second series, specifically 2.4, the artwork and design by Hans Dillesse add an extra layer of allure to the overall experience.

**A Symphony of Flavor:**

It's a captivating introduction, setting the stage for the sensory journey that follows.

**Taste:**
Upon the first sip, the palate is treated to a harmonious blend of flavors. The unpeated malt characteristic of Bunnahabhain shines through, bringing forth a creamy texture. Imagine layers of vanilla, honey, and a touch of oak, complemented by a subtle spiciness that adds depth to the tasting experience. The 53.3% ABV provides a robust platform for the flavors to unfold, creating a whisky that is both bold and elegant.

**Finish:**
The conclusion of the Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old is likely to be a lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression. The sweetness persists, accompanied by a gentle warmth that gracefully fades. It's a finish that reflects the artistry of Michiel Wigman and the nuanced character of Bunnahabhain, inviting enthusiasts to savor the moment.

**Art and Design:**

It's a collaboration that transcends the liquid inside the bottle, making the entire experience a work of art.

In conclusion, the Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old M.Wigman They Inspired II is more than a whisky; it's a celebration of craftsmanship, artistry, and the inspiration drawn from the coastal landscapes of Islay. Nose:

What I find immediately striking is the impression of maturity beyond its years. There is a lovely, well-rounded sherried richness about the nose, full of brioche, fig jam, honey, flower nectars and soft biscuity sweetness. Extremely charming, clean, firm and elegant. Water opens up an easy leafy side with unlit cigars, a little hessian and some gentler cooking oils – still the dominant impression is one of easy charm and elegance.

Palate:

Here it feels a little more assertive, spicy and jammy up front. The oak spices are slightly more pronounced, and yet also the classic Bunna characteristics of salted nuts, honeys and umami are also present. Mouth-filling, textural and satisfyingly rich. Water broadens the palate, bringing in more leafy notes, more tobacco, more roasted nuts, some praline and a rather salty sherry quality – like a youthful dry oloroso perhaps.

Finish:

Long, increasingly saline, nervous and perfectly balancing earthy notes, leather, wood spices and a little bodega funk.

Comments:

A modern sherry cask for sure, but the quality is excellent and overall it pairs very well with the Bunnahabhain distillery character here. Feels like a cask strength version of some 1990s OB 12 year old bottlings at times. A lot of easy drinking pleasure here.
