Another final assemblage that was set to be bottled just after my November visit, the 2021 DB4 Red Wine Blend features gentle cedar shadings, ripe black cherries and a hint of sage. Sourced from four different vineyards, including the home estate on Pritchard Hill, it's full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a long tannic finish.
This Bordeaux-style blend from a super-concentrated vintage is so silky and refined in texture, supple and long in the finish. Dark fruit, blueberries, black cherries, graphite and hints of sage and black olives. Great complexity. It’s 69% cabernet sauvignon, 20% petit verdot and 11% cabernet franc. Full-bodied. Drinkable now, but best after 2030.
I was able to taste the components of two 2021s. The 2021 DB4 offers a round, supple, medium to full-bodied style with terrific purity of fruit. While 2021 was a vintage that produced plenty of concentrated, structured wines, this is beautifully balanced and polished, and I suspect it will offer pleasure right out of the gate.
