The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a very intense bouquet with layers of dark cherry, crème de cassis, a touch of juniper and blackcurrant pastilles. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins, a generous dash of white pepper and a very long, intense finish that maintains superb delineation. This is a long-term Amoureuses although there are only four barrels this year.
Somewhat like the Jarolieres, the nose lacks freshness and here it is more pronounced, indeed there is even a slightly cooked aspect though there is plenty of spice and complexity. Consistent with the impression of the nose the middle weight flavors also seem to lack vibrancy and come across as somewhat flat. The tannins are firm and there isn't anything overtly amiss but the normal elegance and energetic appeal of a fine Amoureuses is missing in action, at least at this point. To be sure this is not a poor wine but it's difficult to recommend in its current state. Note that my suggested drinking window assumes that this does not recover; if it does then 2025+ would be more appropriate.
