Tasted Once

The 1949, 1948, and 1945 Leoville-Bartons are all great efforts. The blockbuster 1945 is one of the great wines of the vintage. It possesses extraordinarily thick, massive fruit and body that stand up to the formidable tannin level. It will last for two more decades.

The best bottle tasted of four showed great liveliness, with rich currant, plum and raisin aromas and flavors. Tannins are not intrusive, and the wine shows grace along with power. The other bottles were powerful, chunky, dense, but not very complex, very ripe and Port-like, with currant and anise aromas and flavors.--Léoville Las Cases vertical.
