My cats don’t like this one as much as they like the Beastie, I’m wondering why. According to the very good folks at LMDW, this baby contains Macallan and Mortach, which suggests a fatter style. What’s sure is that it’s 100% Speyside.

Colour: gold.

Nose: there’s a meaty/sulphury side to it, which, indeed, suggests Mortlach. Used matches, burnt walnuts, brown cake, tobacco, assorted roasted nuts, roasted raisins, artisan chocolate, dry oloroso… and back to walnuts.

Mouth: excellent. Who’s doing the blending at DL’s? This has power, its got loads of gingerbread, Christstolle, anis Bredele, dried bananas.. It’s actually very christmassy, in truth I would have launched this very fine baby nearer to Christmas. But agreed, not my business…

Finish: long, flinty, sherried, nutty.
Comments: seriously, there’s an A’bunadh-y side to this baby. The blender’s a very skilful blender, no doubt about that. So, who is he or she?

Nose: Quite a lot of sherry influence, which is to be expected (right?), staring with dried fruit in liquor, quite a lot of sultanas, and dried fruit cake, the sort Islay Bart makes (love those mate!). There’s quite a lot of red and black fruit marmalade, vanilla and cinnamon, and a hint of gunpowder (well, the sherry influence), but only a bit, so don’t get alarmed if you’re not a fan.

Palate: More deep sherry notes, quite rich with spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger powder) , demerara sugar, chocolate fondant, and black cherry / ripe plum marmalade. Sweet, and thick, with hints of toasted wood hiding behind all the fruit and sherry notes.

Finish: Milk chocolate, Mocha, Cinnamon and wood.

Summary:

This is a lovely dram, quite rich, with the sherry , dried fruit, and marmalade mixing well with the wood spice and choclatey notes. A nice desert dram, that will accompany chocolate dishes quite well , I imagine. Good work
